What We Offer ?

Outreach Services For Diversity Equity & Inclusion

This non-profit is comprised of two black women devoted to the empowerment of all UWM in STEM fields.  This project provides systemization of already established best practices for mentoring women in STEM on a larger level early in their career paths. This scaled-up project provides greater participation of underrepresented women and minorities (UWM) in STEM fields and removes the guesswork that they currently encounter.  We expect that the higher probability of success using evidenced based data on past research practices by research mentors will lead to a higher production of UWM in STEM Fields.

Mentor Matching

We will develop a portfolio of prospective research mentors in STEM fields with prospective underrepresented women and minority (UWM) undergraduate, graduate and post-doctoral students. Mentors listed in this database (all genders) will be vetted and interviewed by the principals for the kinds of research environments that they have created or intend to create. Their cognizance of avoidance of gender and racial bias will be one consideration for acceptance into the database. The quality and currency of the research will also be a critical element for acceptance into the database.

Experienced Principal Staff

MacSmith STEM Enterprises is based on the accomplishments and past performance of the principal staff. Both have distinguished themselves with incomparable support for the careers of women and minorities through the large number of UMW they have mentored into successful STEM careers over the years.  Broader outreach  and technical support are necessary for increased participation of these women at advanced levels in STEM careers.  Without additional innovative interventions, we do not believe the current situation will change dramatically over the next decade.  This well-vetted data base of research mentors for UMWs will serve as a disruptive intervention to current practices.

Outreach Programs

We offer STEM outreach programs to high school and college students and diversity equity and inclusion consulting and program development.

Mentee Stories

I am grateful to the counseling provided to me at MacSmith STEM Enterprises by Dr.Arlene Maclin. With the personalized attention, I was able to narrow down my research topic to “Nanotechnology”.

― Mitchell, Mentee

The counselling environment makes the difference and I’m so happy that I was able to get advice at the right time that helped me to choose “Artificial Intelligence” as my future career path.
